Relevant
The ministry of Calvary Christian Center is relevant to the present world we live in by addressing social issues that challenge our community, such as drug addiction, poverty, education, crime, broken families etc.
Empowering
The ministry of Calvary makes the believer the main focus, which allows effective ministry to take place. Calvary is a glorious ministry that gives seed to other ministries. Discipleship is a focus as Calvary empowers families and individuals.
Accountable
Calvary is a church where the leadership is accountable to God and His local body at Calvary. The leadership will live godly lives that reflect high moral standards. And the covenantors are expected to do the same. Calvary will forever hold the Word in the highest esteem.
Loving
Calvary operates in the love of God in all situations. We will restore our brothers and sisters overtaken in faults, considering our own selves, lest we be tempted. We will seek to restore and heal broken relationships and to forgive in all situations.
Our Story
In November of 1985, God saved and set apart, Vince P. Hairston, with a calling on his life to pastor. In January of 1988, Pastor Vince was licensed as a minister, preaching his initial sermon at his home church, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Cascade, Virginia. During his college years, God allowed Pastor Vince to sit under two great generals of the faith, the late Bishop Otis Lockett, Sr. of Evangel Fellowship Church of God in Christ, and Bishop George Brooks of Mount Zion Baptist Church, both of Greensboro, NC.
In January of 1990, Pastor Vince joined Mount Zion Baptist Church, was ordained in July of 1992, and joined the staff of Mount Zion in June of 1993. Seven years later, in September of 2000, God began speaking to him and confirmed that it was time to begin a new assignment. “Calvary Christian Center” was the name given to Pastor Vince by God many years ago. “REAL Ministry for REAL Life for REAL People” is the motto that describes Calvary. With the prayer, planning and sacrificial giving of a core group of 7 individuals, the vision took physical form.
The inaugural services were held at The Canterbury School on January 7, 2001. God grew and prospered Calvary at its initial location for 19 months. In September of 2002, God led us to 200 Florence Street in Historic Fisher Park in downtown Greensboro. We held our first service there on September 7, 2002. Six months later, on March 28, 2003, Calvary “possessed the land”, with the purchase of 811 Jefferson Road, our church home with three buildings and six acres of land.
From the beginning of the ministry, God began birthing many other ministries. On April 2, 2006, Calvary Christian Center planted its first seed church - Calvary Christian Center East in Cone Elementary School, located in northeast Greensboro. In January of 2008, Calvary East became an independent body and is now Reach Ministry. In January of 2009, Calvary Southwest was planted in southwest Greensboro. In January of 2011, Calvary Southwest became an independent body and is now Spirit and Truth Worship Center of the Triad.
On November 15, 2011, by the grace and favor of God, 369 Air Harbor Road became our church home. Six times larger than our previous home, Calvary now comprised approximately forty acres of land. On December 19, 2014, we also acquired an existing property located at 4705 North Church Street, which we used as a special events complex before selling it in 2020. With God’s continued favor, while during the COVID 19 pandemic, we became debt free, eradicating our mortgage in 2021. We will always be faithful stewards of what God has entrusted us with.
